Calories Burned During Exercise, Activities, Sports and Work

23 Jan

Hi! When I was studying for my Hygiene & Epidemiology exam a few days ago, I stumbled upon this website and there’s this particular subject that I like to share here. It’s about the amount of calories you burned after certain sports or activities:

Exercises, sports and activities are listed below, showing calories burned per hour (energy expended) for a 130, 155, 180 or 205 pound person. The amount of calories expended is influenced by many factors, including body weight, intensity of activity, conditioning level and metabolism.

6 Keys To A Great Relationship

14 Jan

Photo from KhadimulQuran Facebook Page

All of these are status updates from Eway To Quran Facebook page. They are all interrelated so I might as well group them together here :)

There are six keys to a GREAT relationship:

1-Friendship: Try to be your spouse best friend. No matter what happens, be a friend first, and a lover later.

2-Trust: The key element to any relationship is trust, so before starting this beautiful journey with your spouse, learn to trust in all circumstances.

3-Understanding : Try to figure out each other and work out on our differences. There are going to be many differences, but it’s mutual compromise and sacrifice which makes this relationship beautiful.

4-Communication : Try to talk and convey your message to your spouse. Let your spouse know about how good/ bad your day was along with remind them how you feel for them.

5-Honesty: Always speak the truth, never lie or hide things in fear that your spouse won’t understand. Give your spouse a chance to understand you.

6-Freedom: Give your spouse space and freedom to decide for themselves. Don’t take away the personal time of your spouse.
When you have practiced all of the above, then trust Allah and you will see how beautiful life gets.

Stop comparing your spouse to others

• If your wife has no green colored eyes like that of your friend’s wife, so what?

• If your husband has no car like your neighbor, so what?

If these “lacking” make you unhappy, so why did you choose to marry him/her?

By comparing your spouse to others, you will only get frustrated for what you don’t have. And frustration will make you a negative person. And a negative person can only destroy relationship.

The one who actually loves you will never use or abuse you, but protect you from those who will try to use or abuse you. May Allah grant us all a spouse who will love us unconditionally! Ameen!

Well, that’s all for now. Toodles!

Quran At Fajr

6 Jan

I have a few things to share today:

1. Quran at Fajr

“Follow this and you will see the benefits immediately” :) Insha Allah

Current top comment:

The best way to establish and I mean ESTABLISH AND FORTIFY FAJR is by :

1- sleep EARLY

2- FIRST THING YOU WAKE UP DUA- AlHamdulillahiladhi Ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilaihin nushoor – [All praise to Allah, who gave us life after having given us death and to him is our final return.]

3- brush and wudhu

4- keep 2 or 3 alarms near you and time them in such a way that you reach the masjid atleast 10-15 minutes before Iqamah

5 – WALK to the masjid if near and walk like a BOSS making dhikr :)

Lately, I’ve been staying up late to study for my upcoming Pharmacology exam. And I either slept then woke up for fajr then slept back again or just wait for fajr and slept after that. I know it’s a really bad habit, I have to change. Well, class is starting tomorrow so I HAVE to change my sleeping schedule.

2. Duties & Rights After Marriage (from Eway to Quran)

Allah informs us about the just rights of each other on us:

But, in accordance with justice, the wife’s rights (with regard to their husbands) are equal to the (husband’s) rights with regard to them, although men are a degree above them; and Allah is Almighty, Wise.Qur’an [2 : 228]

The statement that men are a degree above women means that authority within the household has been give to the husband in preference to the wife because a heavier burden has been placed on his shoulders by another verse of the Quran which says:

Men shall take full care of women, because Allah has given the one more strength than the other, and because they support them from their means.Qur’an [4 : 34]

3. From syahirul.com

Dari Anas r.a, kami para sahabat r.a bertanya: Ya Rasullullah s.a.w, kami tidak akan menyuruh orang untuk berbuat baik sebelum kami sendiri mengamalkan semua kebaikan dan menjauhi semua kemungkaran. Maka Nabi s.a.w bersabda: Tidak, bahkan serulah orang untuk berbuat baik, meskipun kalian belum mengamalkan semuanya. Dan cegahlah kemungkaran, meskipun kalian belum menghindari semuanya. (H.R. Thabrani)

10 Ways To Be A Good Medical School Student

19 Jan

1. Be An Excellent Manager of Your Own Time

Medical school will overwhelm you. In the four years it will take you to get your MD, you will be presented with more information that you must master than you might have thought possible, even if you did attend a rigorous pre-med program. Accordingly, the first tip to being a good medical student is to develop time-management skills.

2. Be Friends With More Experienced Medical Students

Making connections early in your med school career with students who have been around longer than you can be invaluable. You can learn from their mistakes instead of making them on your own.

3. Be Respectful of Your Own Health

During this overwhelming time, you will be taxing your physical and mental resources to stay on top of your studies. While it’s important that you do well, of course, you must balance your quest for excellence with a commitment to maintaining your health.

4. Be Respectful of The Undertaking

Becoming a doctor is one of the most important things a person can do. Respect this undertaking, and understand that the other aspects of your life (anything non-med-school related) are going to have to take a back seat for a while. A long while.

5. Hit The Books Hard and Often

Get to love studying if you don’t already. There’s only one way to master the amount of information you need to when people’s lives are in your hands, and that’s to immerse yourself in it.

6.Play To Your Strengths, But Don’t Be Limited To Them

Medical school is like any other kind of school in some ways — it’s a learning experience. Do engage in learning opportunities that will showcase your strengths, but also look for ways to grow, to build on areas where you might not be as strong.

7. Choose Your Specialization ASAP

The earlier you can decide about which area of medicine you’d like to practice, the earlier you can become an expert in this area.

8. Find Mentors In Your Field Of Choice

Before you decide on a specialization, talk to the experienced students you know about what they think. Talk to doctors currently practicing in the field that appeals to you. Talk to your instructors. Make professional connections with people who are already doing the kinds of things you want to be doing after you’re out of school.

9. Write As Much As You Can

Med school may be too early to think about publishing your work, but if you are looking for prestige in your field, plan on publishing in the future. The best way to get publication worthy is to write what you can, perhaps by helping already publishing doctors prepare articles.

10. Take The Occasional Break

Good luck with this one!
