FREE Entrance to Open Training Session of Poland National Team!!!

12 Jun

In my previous post, I mentioned that I didn’t manage to get the ticket for the Open Training Session of Poland National Team. I was too late by the time I reached Polonia Stadium. But on my second attempt, which was this morning, my friend and I managed to get 2 free entrance tickets each!

I actually had my Pathomorph FINAL exam today at 4pm, and it wasn’t actually a good idea to do something else besides some last minute studying or answering past years questions in the morning of the day that you will have your final exam. But I went anyway. The counter opened at 9am but we were adviced to be there around 7am.

Fortunately, my friend got exempted from the exam so she queued from 7am and I only went there at 8.30am. And the best thing is, my apartment is only 5 minutes away from the Polonia Stadium.

Apart from the two free tickets, I also received two cards, one with the group picture of Poland National Team with their signatures on the back and the other one with a picture of any of the players. I was lucky enough to received Robert Lewandowski card. On my way back to my appartment, two Polish girls approached my friend and I asking if we got Lewandowski card and wanted to exchange theirs with mine. Sorry girls, gotta keep it :D

Polonia Stadium, where the Poland National Team will be training tomorrow

So, updates for today, Poland scored 1-1 against Russia. It was not so bad because there were rumours saying that Russia is a strong team and Poland will probably not have the chance of winning. But look, although Russia scored a goal in the first-half of the match, Poland managed to make it a draw in the second-half. I think the Poland players did well compared to when they played against Greece.

After the exam, I went around the Warsaw Fan Zone and also in some part of Old Town with my housemate to take some pictures. There were riot police around, controlling the situation. This is due to the tension brought between the two team supporters because the Russians made a march towards the National Stadium of Warsaw.

I bought the Polska muffler near the Fan Zone and put it on. Some locals even smiled at me, maybe they were happy to see some foreigner supporting their team? It was..euphoric. I was excited and a little bit scared at the same time.

When we finally got back, we watched the match between Poland and Russia on live stream. Oh yeah, our Pathomorph lecturers made a surprise by publishing the result today, they said earlier that the result would probably be out tomorrow evening. Most of us passed, I passed, alhamdulillah :)

Right now, I can still hear the Poland supporters cheering on the street singing the Biało Czerwoni  anthem. Ok, till next time! Polska…biało czerwoni! Go white eagles!

Warsaw Fan Zone – EURO 2012

10 Jun

In yesterday’s post, I wrote that I would go to the Fan Zone after all the final exams are over. And yet at 5pm yesterday, I went to the Fan Zone. How ironic. I could not stand the photos posted by some ‘Pages’ I ‘liked’ on Facebook and also a few of my friends’ photos.

Oh yeah, I was also motivated by the Poland national team supporters who passed by my apartment building singing and cheering along the way. They were all in red and white. Polska…biało czerwoni!!!

Epic isn’t it?

When I got out of my house, I was kind of hampered by the fact that most of the people I passed by along my way to the bus stop were not in red and white and I was the one wearing the colour code. Who’s the foreigner now?

But not until I got in the bus, a few were in red and white. And as the bus went further, I was sooo glad that the city is filled with the two colours! As I reached Centrum, I was totally hyped up! But, being somewhat short among the crowd and alone at that moment, I was a little bit afraid, the rest of my friends were at the Hard Rock Cafe in front of Zlote Tarasy. What with the smell of alcohol and a few red faces of drunkards, how could I not be afraid? (Oh, the Poles can be drunk anytime)

Fast forward, I was at the entrance of the Fan Zone facing the Hard Rock Cafe. My friend told me that the entrance was not that packed compared to other entrances. When I was already the next one to enter, the guard called some guys instead of me. Then I realised he was calling them first, so that it would be easier for the security check. A few guys were denied entrance, drunks probably.

After 10 minutes or so near one of the grandstands, I saw my friends. The crowd, I don’t know how to explain it, but it was unbelievable! During the first half of the match between Poland and Greece, we watched from a screen but it was not as big as the main screen. We cheered for Poland’s first goal there. I was so excited. The whole crowd were!

During the half-time break, half of us went home because they need to study, while the 5 of us including me, squeezed our way to the big screen. Of course I need to study too, but I just couldn’t leave before the match ends. Anyway, we managed to go to the area where the main grandstand and the largest screen were, just before the second-half started.

I can say that I preferred the crowds there. To our left was the place for all the cameramen with all their gigantic lenses and gadgets. (My friends and I got a little bit attention from some cameramen, thanks to our ‘foreign’ faces) :D

I was crushed (don’t worry, not literally) when Greece scored a goal for themselves and also when our goalkeeper was given a red card. The excitement came back to us right when the penalty goal for the Greeks were blocked by our substitute goalkeeper. We sang along to the Biało Czerwoni anthem, we screamed Polska with the crowds, it was one of my best experience ever. I don’t care how long I have to stand on my toes to watch the match, I was enthusiastic as ever. What can I say, the people around me are tall, except for my friends.

“Jeszcze jeden! Jeszcze jeden!” (One more time! One more time!) All of us were hoping that Poland would score another goal, unfortunately, the match ended with a draw. But our spirit for Poland to win it’s first match never extinguished. We still cheered and applaud at the end of the match.

I hope Poland to win the next match against Russia. That would be on the 12th of June, the day I will sit for my Pathomorph exam.  I thought I was going to make a short post for this one, but looks like I’ve done it again. Yeah, babbled all the way from the start. So, take care people!

Proud Malaysians. Polska…biało czerwoni!!!

With love from Warsaw

(I’m going to appreciate the phrase above years from now when I got back to Malaysia and missing Poland) Better make the best of it while I’m still here. Cześć!

EURO 2012 (Poland-Ukraine)

8 Jun

EURO is finally here!! And Poland welcomes you!

While most of the people in Warsaw are enjoying the EURO 2012 celebration, I am stuck in my room, facing Pathomorph books. It’s the greatest experience ever. Totally.

Yesterday was the opening for the Fan Zones in many places in Poland. Warsaw’s is the largest, measuring up to 147m2! I have planned with my friends to go there when the exams are over. I have 3 more exams to go; Pathomorph, Polish and Microbe. The Fan Zones are open till early July so I hope I will get the chance!

Warsaw Fan Zone at night. I bet Taio Cruz was one of the thousands of people there. But of course he must be backstage. (I guess)

Oh yeah, Taio Cruz was one of the artists who performed at the Warsaw Fan Zone yesterday. Here are the photos of the Fan Zone before the opening.

At 10 am this morning, I went to Stadion Polonii (Polonia Stadium) with a friend to collect the free tickets to watch the Polish National team during their training session tomorrow. The stadium is only within walking distance from my current apartment :) Stadion Polonii and Hyatt Regency Hotel are made as the base camp for the Polish National Team.

You can check out your favourite team base camps here. My friends who are in Krakow are so lucky to be only a few feet away from the English Team. They even recorded some videos!

Polonia Stadium (Poland Team trains here)

I was frustrated to find out that the tickets are all given out :( I was told by the security guard to come at 7am next Tuesday to collect the tickets for Wednesday’s training session. Yupp, the tickets can only be collected on the days preceding the training session from 9am to 4pm and yet, at 10am today the tickets are all..gone. When I was there, there are some guys who also look frustrated, I’m pretty sure they had the same luck as mine.

One more thing, this is not regarding EURO 2012 though. AWOLNATION performed in Warsaw last Sunday! They are still on tour around Europe.

AWOLNATION in Ursynalia Warsaw Student Festival 2012

So, at 6pm today, there will be the first EURO 2012 match and it will be held in the Warsaw National Stadium and the match will be between Poland against Greece. I’m on Team Poland of course!

I’ve checked the price for the EURO match tickets last time and they are..my God…SO..EXPENSIVE! My friend bought 2 tickets for himself and his brother who will be coming from Russia and it costs them about 2000 zlotty which is about RM2000! They are  one hell of a hardcore-football-fans!

I will be at the grandstand in the Fan Zone watching the match from a big screen. That’s good enough for me :)

My housemates and I, the background is the Warsaw National Stadium. It’s so pretteyh I’m gonna die!
